Did you know some cities in upstate New York spent around $40 million on auto repairs specifically caused by potholes this year alone? The winter of 2013-2014, reported as one of the most expensive winters on record, seriously damaged many highways, including the well-traversed Route 21.

The snow lingered far longer than we expected; you probably remember that it didn’t melt until late April! It seeped into the crevices of the pavement and forced the asphalt apart. Over time, these crevices turned into deep holes. Those potholes caused all of Canandaigua to suffer through erratic driving and serious auto damage. New York State funds the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program, but who pays for damaged vehicles? Auto owners.

4-Wheel Alignment

We’ll make sure each wheel is in line with each other and perfectly perpendicular to the road. We do this to maximize the life of your tire tread and strengthen the suspension program on your vehicle.

Rotate & Balance Tires

How often should you get your tires rotated? We try to keep things simple here at Murphy’s Auto Service, so plan on rotating your tires as often as you change the oil. You can expect to do both about twice a year, or every 7,500 miles. Some cars can go longer, but that’s a good rule of thumb.

For balancing your tires, we’ll load each tire individually onto a balancing machine and spin it. The tiny tire weights located deep in the tread of the tire will creep closer to the edge. Our mechanic will then make sure the tires have an appropriate number of weights. You need to balance your tires only on an as-needed basis (i.e. if you hear an unexplainable roar or feel abnormal vibrations when the engine is running).

We’ll give your vehicle a once-over for all it’s major components. We’ll check for oil leaks, fluid levels, windshield wiper condition, and brake pad depth.
